Not affiliated with the government

VA Claims Field Guide is a private, independent educational publisher. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, authorized by, or in any way officially connected to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Defense, or any other federal, state, or local government agency.

All references to VA, VA forms, VA regulations, and VA publications are for identification and educational purposes only. The official source for VA benefits information is va.gov, and official regulations are published at ecfr.gov.

Educational only — not legal advice

The guide, workbook, templates, rate sheet, articles, and emails we publish are general educational information. They are not legal advice; they are not tailored to your situation, and reading them does not create an attorney-client relationship.

If you need advice about your specific claim, talk to a VA-accredited attorney, claims agent, or Veterans Service Organization representative. Accreditation can be verified for free at VA's Office of General Counsel accreditation search. VSO representation is free.

Not medical advice

Nothing we publish is medical advice, a diagnosis, or a treatment recommendation. We describe what the rating criteria measure so you can have a better-informed conversation with your own clinician. We are not your health care provider, and no provider-patient relationship is created.

We do not prepare or file claims

Under federal law, only individuals accredited by VA may prepare, present, or prosecute a claim for VA benefits on a claimant's behalf. We are not accredited, we do not offer those services, and we will not file anything for you.

We sell a publication. We do not charge fees based on a claim, a rating, a decision, or an award of back pay, and we never take a percentage of your benefits.

No guarantee of outcome

We make no promise, prediction, or guarantee regarding any claim, rating percentage, effective date, or amount of compensation. Your claim is decided by VA on the evidence in your file. Results differ from veteran to veteran because facts, evidence, and medical findings differ.

Anyone who guarantees you a rating is either mistaken or selling you something.

Accuracy and currency

We cite the source for every criterion we state so that you can verify it yourself. That is the point of citing it.

Rating criteria, forms, portals, and procedures change. Our materials state the date through which they were verified. We make no warranty that everything is current on the day you read it. Before you rely on anything for a decision that matters, check the current text at ecfr.gov or va.gov, or ask an accredited representative.

If you find an error in our materials, email support@vaclaimsfieldguide.com. We will correct it and tell subscribers.

Third-party links

We link to government sites, VSOs, legal aid organizations, and other resources. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content or accuracy. A link is not an endorsement.
